What is AICAR?
AICAR (5-Aminoimidazole-4-carboxamide ribonucleotide) is an AMP mimetic that activates AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) — the master cellular energy sensor. AICAR enters cells and is phosphorylated to ZMP, which mimics the effect of elevated AMP:ATP ratio.
